Church on the Ground
A group of about 20 people are gathered together in a village, sitting on mats or blankets on the ground, forming a circle. Nearby are some huts with thatched roofs. These people are “in church.” It is not a typical church like many of us experience every Sunday, but still a church. This church is perhaps different from many others in terms of liturgy, but the core purposes for meeting as the church are the same. The people have come together to give thanks to Jesus, worship the Lord, encourage one another, and learn the word of God together. This kind of scene has become common among people who have accepted Jesus in their lives but don’t change their “religion” on their identity documents since they want to be effective evangelists for their families and friends.
As we worship the Lord and have "church" next weekend, let's pray:
- The Lord will continue to strengthen these new believers in this group.
- The Lord will add more people to His Kingdom.
- The Lord will send more workers to work among these unreached people groups.
- The church will rise up and work out the best method in reaching out to the unbelievers.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-25, NIV)
