Be Baptized

When people go through severe hardship, one can expect their outlook on spiritual matters to be affected. Will they be drawn to faith in Jesus or close their hearts to God? One woman who was a victim of a natural disaster a few years ago studied the truth about Jesus for more than three years. Finally, she became convinced to trust Jesus as Savior and Lord, and she was baptized last December!

Recently, some of the woman’s family members challenged her faith and her baptism. Her reply was that people get salvation only through Jesus. Despite the challenges this woman faces, through her witness, other members of her family also came to know the Lord, and they were recently baptized.

Before the baptisms of her family members, the woman was sitting by herself, alone. One of the field team members did not want to bother her, since it seemed that she was praying. But after the baptisms, the field worker asked her what she had been doing when she was alone. Her answer melted the hearts of the team. She said, “I was praying so many more people will come to know [Jesus] and be baptized in this place.”

Let us join in prayer with this dear sister in Christ, praying that many more people in her community will come to know our Lord and Savior and for that place to have many new disciples coming there to receive baptism. Pray that the field workers will not give up when it seems that people are studying about Jesus for a long time without believing. And pray that those who are believers in this community will grow in their faith.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”  (Acts 2:38-39, NIV)
